Six good reasons why you should use a mulcher for your crop

But what do we mean when we refer to "biomass"?

The word "biomass" describes renewable raw materials derived from crops grown expressly for energy production as well as waste and residues from forestry, livestock, and agricultural operations. Among the most abundant renewable resources is biomass.

  1. Improving moisture retention and lowering evaporation

By adding a layer of protection to the soil, mulching helps to improve moisture retention and decrease evaporation. Weed growth and soil erosion are less common in moist soil. Mulch helps control the temperature of the soil by holding onto moisture in the soil. For earthworms and other creatures like ground beetles and centipedes, this offers the perfect habitat. Earthworms contribute nutrients to the soil by breaking down the mulch. While centipedes and ground beetles aid in the management of pests.

  2. Energy reserves in grass

are kept near their origins. This energy is not lost when cutting the grass stalks. In essence, the energy stores are increased because the mulch that covers newly cut grass acts as feed for the grass to grow again. You can therefore be sure that every time you return to a resting pasture, it will be just as viable as before if you are using a pasture rotation strategy for grazing animals or crops.

  3. Get rid of plant diseases

It has been demonstrated that the best way to reduce the chance of disease lingering in plants is to shred the leftovers of such cultures, such as cover crop corn, maize, sugar beet, sunflowers, and vegetables, after the crop has been harvested. After the plants are destroyed, the pests that infect them are killed and are left without a place to stay warm during the winter. As a result, new plant growth and regrowth following plowing are stable and secure. They grow more broadly and with a greener hue.

  4. Steer clear of fire-related activities!

The sole practical substitute for the burning process is to use forestry mulchers. Compared to the danger of shooting land and damaging people's homes, it is safe. Additionally, mulching adds value to the property. In most countries across the world, including the European Union, burning vegetable residues is strictly prohibited. Violators face steep fines.

  5. Significant benefits in orchards and vineyards

Branches of grape plants and orchards in general, along with the grass that grows in the spring and summer, are pruned annually.

For the same reasons that other garden sections are mulched, you should mulch the vineyard/orchard as well: it will increase soil nutrition as it breaks down, suppress weed growth, and lessen erosion while allowing more rain to penetrate.

  6. Cut back on fertilizer use

Because a long-term mulching strategy will enhance the quality and health of the soil, allowing you to use fewer fertilizers.

In conclusion :

It has been demonstrated by science that the use of mulching machines allows the land to receive annually about 25% of the amount of organic ingredients it needs.

This makes it possible to preserve the terrain's improved structure and, consequently, its proper aeration. Farmers who do not use mulching machines are forced to continuously apply organic fertilizer from outside sources. For the farmers themselves, this is just an increase in expenses that they can no longer afford to bear. Since the ground is already rich in nutrients, adding more fertilizer might not be necessary.
